When buying sweets or other foods we simply forget that most of these items are teeming with harmful food additives and preservatives. What ingredients do you need to avoid when buying a particular food and why?

Lots of ingredients have a destructive effect on the human health; cause various diseases. You should avoid or reduce the eating of following ingredients in your diet: artificial food coloring, sugar substitutes, flavor enhancers, preservatives, synthetic fat substitutes, palm oil, etc.

How to identify "harmful" ingredients and avoid the tricks that unfair manufacturers use?

- check carefully labels;

- not all products labeled "organic" are useful and natural, so you should check the ingredients listed on the product label and learn more about the manufacturer;

Here are some of the “dangerous” ingredients that may “kill” our health slowly.

No. 1 Palm oil: harm or benefit?

Palm oil is added to a huge number of products which adults and children love: cookies, ice cream, pizza, chocolate and other sweets, margarine, most packaged goods, shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, cosmetics, etc. Some people say that you can use palm oil while other people are against it. According to study scientists recommend minimizing the use of palm oil as there is a risk of heart disease, increased cholesterol and obesity.

But this question is still controversial. So how much do you use palm oil? Most manufacturers hide the name “palm oil” on the package under different names. Here are some of them: vegetable oil, Palmate, Palmitate, Stearic Acid, Clyceryl, Stearate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Butylene Glycol, vegetable fat, Etyl Palmitate and many other palm oil derivatives.

We tried to make a research on this topic and got to the conclusion that palm oil is harmful to human health. But this is not a recommendation, because it is your personal choice to use palm oil or not.
Food additives

№2 Artificial food coloring

Artificial food coloring is used to dye goods, giving them the desired taste and color. There is no doubt, they are harmful for the human health of any age. It’s very important to keep in mind that artificial dyes such as Yellow 5, Yellow 6, Red 40, Blue 1, Blue 2, Green 3, Orange B are among the most dangerous food additives. Sometimes you want to do something pleasant for yourself and your children: buy cupcakes, try ice cream with different tastes, bake a pie with jam, etc. And we all know how it’s difficult sometimes for grandparents to refuse something to their beloved grandchildren. For example, when children ask them to buy a bunch of colorful candies and drinks. But regular use of all these "harmless" foods causes serious problems. It was proved that Red 40, Yellow 5, Yellow 6 contain benzidine and other carcinogens. Artificial food dyes cause increased hyperactivity in children, allergies, aggression, reduce attention and in general, some artificial dyes affect the behavior of children. If you doubt, then try to remove foods with certain food dyes and your children will again become obedient, cute and, most importantly, healthy.

№3 Sweeteners

Everybody wants to be slim and look attractive, so they refuse sugar and find an alternative. Some people choose “useful” sugar substitutes or sweeteners. When you see "sugar free" on the package, do not rush to buy.

One of the cheapest sweeteners is fructose corn syrup. It is very high in calories and has a high fructose content and its consumption can lead to diseases of the heart, liver and intestines. You can meet this ingredient even in those products that are not sweet such as soft drinks, bread, many processed foods, canned vegetables, yoghurts, etc.
Aspartame is another well-known sweetener that is low in calories. You can find it in carbonated beverages and diet products. It affects the health of any person and has a number of consequences: memory impairment, toxic, affects the nervous system, etc.

No. 4 Flavor enhancers

Flavor enhancers don’t allow us to stop while eating. They make the taste better and it’s often added to soups, meat products, chips, etc. Monosodium glutamate is one of the most common flavor enhancers. After eating foods with this ingredient, you can experience weakness, sickness, dizziness and other serious diseases. There are also many other flavor enhancers, such as sodium guanylate, hydrolyzed soy proteins which are quite controversial in use.

No. 5 Preservatives

Synthetic food preservatives may cause nausea, headache, allergies, asthma, and even such serious diseases as cancer. They are used in the following products: meat products, chips, margarine, fast food, baked goods, etc.
Sodium benzoate preserves the shelf life of many foods, but it’s a carcinogen affecting the human health. Sodium nitrite is a food coloring and harmful preservative, which is added to sausages and fertilizers. Many scientists argue about the harm of this preservative.
Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). These preservatives are widely used to preserve the shelf life of oils and fats but they are carcinogenic to rats. In any case, you should not overindulge in foods such as beer, chips, margarine.

№6 Trans fats

Trans fats or partially hydrogenated fats have a fairly bad reputation. Foods containing such fats have a negative impact on human health, so they are called the most harmful additives. Even if you eat a small amount of trans fats it may lead to serious diseases of the heart, blood vessels, liver, Alzheimer's disease, and cancer. You should try to avoid eating trans fats and read the ingredients on the package carefully.

No. 7 Synthetic Fat Substitute

We can often see these tempting words on the package: “Fat Free”, “cholesterol-free” and they can be found in foods such as chips, snacks, dressings, desserts, cheese, butter, dairy products, ice cream, mayonnaise, etc. Do you think that you can eat everything and don’t worry about overweight? Well, that's not true. It’s a “magic” fat substitute because Olestra is a non-caloric fat. Its regular consumption causes serious diseases in children and adults. This synthetic fat is indigestible, provides weight gain, causes diarrhea and other gastrointestinal problems, prevents vitamins from being absorbed and may also cause the development of other dangerous diseases.

Diets, a healthy lifestyle - it is very popular now. But you don’t need to follow the fashion and you just need to follow the diet and keep a healthy lifestyle in order to preserve your health, the health of your children and your family. In conclusion, it’s safe to say that a healthy organic food is simply irreplaceable thing, but only you choose to what is good for your health and what is not.
