Maine (ME)

The state Maine is located in the northeast of the United States and it's quite often called "The Pine State". Augusta is the capital of the state of Maine; Portland, Bangor, Brunswick, Biddeford and Lewiston are the largest cities. Acadia National park, one of main natural sights of the state, is located on Mount Desert island at the bottom of the Cadillac mountain, from where you can contemplate very beautiful ocean view and ancient small town Bar-Harbor. Baxter park is also an interesting place, where the highest mountain of the state Maine Katahdin (1600 m) is located and where you won't find any specially laid roads or routes, only pedestrian routes. The scenic peninsula Cape Code, beautiful Moosehead Lake and unique desert Maine next to Freeport attract to state tourists attention. The Portland Museum of Art's galleries feature a collection of American art of the ХІХ-ХХ centuries. There are many lighthouses in the state; Portland Head Lighthouse is the oldest in the United states. By the way, one of the world's most famous magazines has recognized Portland as one of the top places to live in America. It's an interesting fact that Stephen King, well-known American writer, is born here in Maine and the action of Stephen King's books oftentimes takes place exactly in this state.
